From Workshops to Vision Boards: My Journey with Powerful Women

My mom always said to watch the company you keep. Reflecting on that advice, I realize I’ve done fairly well in that area. When it comes to friendships, I’ve formed bonds with some wonderful women. As for my love life, well, that’s another story. Nevertheless, I’ve been blessed with a solid group of women who have become sisters and my closest confidants.
“These relationships have opened doors to amazing opportunities, such as hosting networking workshops, teaching branding, and refreshing the brand identity for a black-owned luxury event brand, ‘The Fine Wine Series.’ All these opportunities have come my way because of my connections with powerful and motivated women. It goes to show that iron sharpens iron. Having relationships with people who empower and pour into you, just as you do for them, is integral to growth.”
In January, I joined an incredible group of women at the Thrive in 2025 meetup at Jasmine Omorogbe’s home. I was thrilled and honored to be in such good company. First and foremost, I have to thank my best friend, Iya Thomas, founder of Shapely and Snap Scene. Without Iya, I wouldn’t have had the pleasure of knowing and fostering a relationship with Jasmine.
The one-day event was split into group activities of our choice. Attendees could create either a bingo or vision board highlighting their 2025 goals. Many of us chose to do the boards later and shared them in our WhatsApp group. I ended up completing my board at home with my daughters and was surprised to see that we share many of the same goals, from going to a concert to enjoying lazy beach days.
Bella’s Workshop
After enjoying some delicious Mexican food from Chipotle, we broke into groups for two available workshops. I attended the workshop hosted by Reiki practitioner Bella, which focused on aligning mind, body, and soul. I discovered so much with the women in that workshop, like leaning into the seasons and aligning with the one that grounds me most. I also got emotional sharing how I realized I was out of alignment with some people and needed to let them go. It felt natural, and all the women in the group listened without judgment, just honesty and compassion.
After the workshops, we gathered to share our discoveries and what we wanted to achieve and be held accountable for in 2025. In this group, we communicate often, sharing activities, updates, and opportunities. Building a network is key to success, but you must ensure you have the right people. Every woman in the group is driven, highly educated, and a disruptor in her own right. Being out of alignment with people can bring you down because it means you're not being true to yourself.
I hope everyone takes the time to find their tribe and build their network. Don’t be afraid to share what you need and what you’re looking for because closed mouths don't get fed. Others won’t know unless you speak up and be brave. Be open and discerning with your vulnerability. As Q1 comes to an end, I hope to continue sharing and growing with this group of women and encourage you to find your tribe in 2025.
